The New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013 commonly known as the NY SAFE Act is a gun control law in the state of New York. The law was passed by the New York State Legislature January 15, 2013, and signed into law. There are several provisions of this law that affect current and prospective gun owners.
The NYSAFE Act protects the privacy of pistol license holders personal information by permitting them to notify a County Clerk that they do not wish for their information to be released publicly. Under the law, current licensees and new applicants may make this notification to their licensing officer using a form approved by the Superintendent of the New York State Police. Information and instructions for this can be found on our website in the pistol permit section (PDF).
