Tax Payer's Guide
Town & County Taxes
The fiscal year for property taxes in January 1st to December 31st. Town, special district and county included in one tax bill, along with a relevy of any outstanding school or village taxes. In the fifteen towns and one city, taxes are due January 1st and are payable to the Town Receiver / Collector of Taxes or to the City Chamberlain. Town and County taxes are collected during January without interest. Starting February 1st, interest of 1% per month will be applied. After April 30th all unpaid taxes and interest are returned to the County Treasurer with an additional 5% return penalty applied.
Town & County Tax Installments
If your tax bill exceeds $100.00 you may pay your bill in two equal installments. The first installment is due without interest by January 31st. The next installment will have interest applied at 1% per month on the unpaid balance until paid. This option is not available after January 31st. Unpaid installments after April 30th will be charged a return penalty of 5% plus additional interest of 1% per month until paid. This option is not available for the City of Oneida taxes.
School Taxes
The fiscal year for school taxes is July 1st to June 30th. School taxes are due September 1st and payable to the School Tax Collector. Taxes may be paid without interest for the first thirty days of the collection period. 2% interest is charged for taxes paid in October. 3% interest may be charged for taxes paid in November. On or before November 15th the School Tax Collector returns a list of all unpaid school taxes to the Madison County Treasurer for collection.
Village Taxes
The fiscal year for village taxes is June 1st to May 31st. Village taxes are due June 1st and are payable to the Village Tax Collector. Taxes may be paid without interest during the first month plus one day of the collection period. 5% interest is charged for the month of July and an additional 1% each month until September 30. On or before October 25th, the Village Tax Collector returns a list of unpaid village taxes to the Madison County Treasurer for collection
