Be Aware for Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs)

Algae and Harmful Algae Blooms may occur at bathing beaches.

Avoid it.

  • Stay out of the water if you see discolored water, surface scums, or other signs of algae blooms.
  • Always look for signs at beaches and follow advisories.
  • If a beach is closed due to a HAN, do not swim until it has been officially reopened. Reopening typically occurs after the bloom has cleared for at least 24 hours and bathing water sample results are below the levels of concern.
