We investigate reportable communicable diseases in New York State (PDF), and provide education on infection control and prevention of disease outbreaks to healthcare professionals and the community.
Reporting Requirements
Reporting of suspected or confirmed communicable diseases to local health departments is mandated under New York State Sanitation Code (10NYCRR 2.10).
The primary responsibility for disease reporting rests with physicians, nurses (including school nurses), laboratory directors, infection control practitioners, health care facilities, schools and day care center directors, nursing home/hospitals, state institutions, and other locations providing health services.
Reports should be sent to the local health department where a patient resides.
