Notice to Recipients of Vehicle and Traffic Law Citations

Traffic tickets are not handled by phone or by mail

as of November 1, 2013

If you have received a traffic ticket in Madison County you have three options:

  1. Plead guilty and the Court will assess the fine
  2. Plead not guilty and retain the services of an attorney in order to attempt to receive a reduction of your traffic ticket by mail.
  3. Plead not guilty and attempt to receive a reduction of your violation yourself at a pre-trial conference with the District Attorney’s Office at the Court where the ticket was received.

If you select Option #2, please have you attorney contact the District Attorney’s Office for instructions on a reduction by mail.

If you select Option #3, the Court will set up a conference with a representative of the District Attorney’s Office at the Court. At the conference, you will need to bring the following information:

  1. A clear copy of ticket
  2. Driving Abstract (can be obtained from the Dept. of Motor Vehicles
  3. If there was an accident, an insurance company letter stating that all claims have been or will be paid, (can be obtained by contacting your insurance agency)

If no agreement can be reached at the pre-trial conference the matter will be set for trial by the Court at a date convenient for the Court.

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation in this matter.
