[ARCHIVED] Madison County Celebrates Child Passenger Safety Week

Chittenango Child Safety Event

Madison County is celebrating National Child Passenger Safety Week, September 17-23, 2023 with a Child Safety Event in Chittenango. Join Madison County Public Health, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police on Wednesday, September 20 from 4:30-6:30 pm at the Chittenango Fire Department, 417 Genesee St., for this free event.

Parents and caregivers can get their car seats checked by specially trained staff at a Child Safety Seat Check. Staff will make sure your child is in the correct car seat and that the seat is properly installed and used. You will also learn about best practices to keep children safe in vehicles. It is recommended to bring the child with you and install the car seat before you arrive. No appointment is needed.

Madison County Sheriff’s Office will also be offering Safe Child ID at this event. They will take your child’s photo and fingerprints to create an ID card that will help quickly provide important details to law enforcement if needed. It is recommended that children get their Safe Child ID as soon as possible and then update it once each year. Even infants can get their photo and fingerprints taken.

For more information on the event and child car seat safety, including videos on how to install different types of car seats, visit: https://www.madisoncounty.ny.gov/444/Child-Passenger-Car-Seat-Safety. For questions about this event, please call Madison County Public Health at 315-366-2555.
