[ARCHIVED] Free Civilian Response To Active Shooter Event Training

Pistol and Badge Photo

Due to devastating active shooter events across the country and the recent threats of violence made in our local schools, the Madison County Sheriff's Office would like to remind the community that we offer a FREE Civilian Response to an Active Shooter Event (CRASE) training.

Law enforcement officers are frequently requested by schools, businesses, and community members for direction and presentations on what they should do during an active shooter event. The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course, designed and built on the "Avoid, Deny, Defend" strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004. The training provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, the role of professional guardians, civilian response options, medical issues and drills.

This four-hour training is being offered to schools, colleges, businesses, hospitals and places of worship. Just like a fire drill, having a plan and being prepared is the key to safety. For further information please contact Deputy Feola of the Madison County Sheriff's Office at Kevin.Feola@madisoncounty.ny.gov.
