Two DSS Employees, Timothy Brown, Grade B Supervisor and Cheryl Darrow, Caseworker, were presented with the Liberty Bell Award at yesterday's Law Day. The honor is given each year by the Madison County Bar Association to honor outstanding citizens within the local community who are non-lawyers who have given of their time and energy to strengthen the effectiveness of the American system of freedom under our Constitution.
Former DSS Attorney Lawrence Brown provided an overview of his recollection of working with both Tim and Cheryl prior to the awards being given. DSS Commissioner Fitzgerald spoke of how the awardees are to be commended for their dedication to the safety, permanency and well-being of children as exemplified in their years of work for the department. Both Cheryl and Tim spoke about their belief that the work they do has meaning and how the award is truly appreciated from the Bar Association.
Retired Judge Hugh Humphries was the keynote speaker and used his time to reminisce about the work that DSS does, as exemplified by Cheryl and Tim, to protect children and families in this community and how that work is worthy of praise.
