Naturalization Records

During the period of 1852 – 1953 naturalization of aliens occurred at the county level. Both Declarations of Intent and Petitions for Naturalization were filed in the local courts. The County Clerk was, and currently is, the Clerk of the Courts and as such these records are maintained by the County Clerk’s office. We are fortunate to have 27 volumes of naturalization records as well as many hundreds of unbound documents (some as early as 1819) relating to the naturalization process.

To view these records, we have created a series of alphabetized pdf reports that can be viewed and searched online for your convenience. Due to the amount of information collected, the reports contain only the following – last name, first name, alias last name, alias first name, date of birth, city of birth, country of birth, arrival date, arrival port, declaration of intent date, declaration of intent number, naturalization date, and certificate number. If you would like to learn more about a person or persons found in the reports, please complete a Research Request Form or visit the office.

To begin your search, click on a letter below. The reports are searchable using Adobe Reader or Preview (Mac). The Help feature of either of these programs will step you through the process.
