Economic Development

Located in the Center of New York State, Madison County boasts a strong and diverse economy with a proactive network of governmental agencies and private partners collaboratively focused on economic development.

The Madison County Center for Economic Development, located off of Route 5 in Canastota, houses the Industrial Development Agency, with the mission of  "cultivating development throughout Madison County, New York, in order to generate and enhance the livelihood of area businesses, industries, communities, and citizens, and enrich the overall quality of life".

Additionally, the Madison County Workforce Development Center, part of the Workforce Investment Board for Madison, Herkimer, and Oneida Counties, is conveniently housed in the Sears Plaza in Oneida.  Coupled with Department of Labor, County staff, and other partners, the Center offers "One-Stop" convenience to connect businesses and job seekers.

In February 2013, the Madison County Board of Supervisors adopted an Economic Development Strategy for Madison County.  The final strategy (written and compiled by the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board), is reflective of a broad constituency and it paints a clear path forward to enhanced economic prosperity.  Working in parallel with the Central New Regional Economic Development Council's strategic plan, the strategy for Madison County has positioned us ahead of pack in the economic development arena.  Click here for an Executive Summary of the Strategy, or on the image to the left for the entire document.
