Precarious Work Schedules and Population Health. Almost 60 percent of the U.S. labor force is paid by the hour. While unstable and unpredictable work schedules have become the new normal for many hourly workers, so have the negative health consequences:
Economic insecurity and work-life conflict;
Poor mental and physical health outcomes in adults;
Behavioral problems in young children.
