Investigations Unit

Sheriff’s Line Do Not Cross TapeThe Madison County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Unit consists of three full-time investigators and one full-time Sergeant. The Sheriff’s Office also has two part-time investigators that complete background investigations and pistol permit investigations. The Unit investigates major crimes, such as rape, arson, robbery, burglary, narcotics and homicide. The Investigative Unit also conducts special investigations as directed by the Sheriff. The Unit assists other local, State and Federal police departments as well as the Madison County District Attorney’s Office.

The Investigative Unit assists the Department of Social Services with several functions. Sheriff’s Investigators investigate welfare fraud complaints, assist Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Units and Investigators provide juvenile transports for Family Court. Investigators also assist DSS caseworkers with public assistance application investigations.
