Persons With Access & Functional Needs

Recent studies indicate that as high as 20% of our citizens in Madison County live with access and functional needs on a daily basis. These needs include physical, medical, emotional, mobility and communication challenges.

During time of a disaster, persons with access and functional needs may also be faced with a number of other challenges; such as, warning and notification issues, how will I be notified and where can I find information?, evacuation and transportation issues, when instructed to leave their home, what do I take with me and how much?

Here are several resources that will help you and your family prepare for disaster:
  • Ready - Individuals with Disabilities and Others with Access and Functional Needs, "How to Make a Plan and Create a Support Network"
  • Red Cross - Preparedness for Seniors and People with Access and Functional Needs
  • ADA - Making Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Programs Accessible to People with Disabilities
Being Prepared Starts with You, Your Family, and Your Community.
